Ranchi : One person was killed and two got injured when about 20 elephants went on a rampage in the Chaibasa district of Jharkhand, a forest official said Thursday.
The people sustained injuries while they were trying to drive out the elephants who had entered the district Wednesday night.
“A herd of elephants entered the outskirts of Chaibasa district to save a new born calf. We are trying to drive them back to the forest area,” District Forest Official (DFO) K.K. Tewary told IANS by telephone.
According to the forest department, elephants have killed more than 600 people in the past six years and injured about 700.
