By IANS,

Thiruvananthapuram : Kerala will offer industry-specific land to prospective non-resident Indian (NRI) investors, an official statement said Saturday.

According to the scheme, land developed by government agencies like Kerala Industrial Development Corp (KSIDC), Kerala Industrial Infrastructure Development Corp (Kinfra) and Directorate of Industries and Commerce (DIC) will be made available to prospective NRIs.

In a release issued here Saturday by KSIDC, a long list of available land has been put up for the NRIs.

Interested NRI, entrepreneurs or firms based in the Middle East can apply online by logging on to www.ksidcinvest.org.

All the details of the available land, including the price, were provided on the website and those interested can choose the desired location and submit applications online by Jan 31, 2009.

Kerala now has over two million of its people settled abroad, with close to 90 percent of them working in the Middle East. Over the years, the remittances made by them have kept the state economy afloat.

In the last fiscal, Kerala received Rs.245.25 billion in remittances – about 20 percent of the state’s net state domestic product and 30 percent more than the state’s annual receipts.
