Had we tackled rebels, we’d have won in Rajasthan: Jaitley

By IANS,

New Delhi : Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) general secretary Arun Jaitley Monday described as a “happy occasion” the party’s victories in Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh states due to the pro-incumbency factor.

But Jaitley said the BJP lost out in Rajasthan due to rebels and lack of consensus on some issues in the state.

“We were in a situation to win in Rajasthan too. There were our party rebels and some other problems. Had we tackled them, our performance would have been much better,” the BJP leader told reporters here, as results from five state assembly elections poured in.

While the BJP retained power Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh, it trailed the Congress in Rajasthan. The BJP also failed to subdue the Congress led by Sheila Dixit in Delhi assembly polls.

In Mizoram, the Congress marched to a comfortable majority.

“If we had made bigger consensus in Rajasthan, we would not have been found wanting there,” Jaitley said.

“We went (to elections) on the basis of our performance. We got a comfortable majority in Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh. It is a happy occasion for us,” Jaitley said.
