New Delhi : A man was detained by the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) Monday at the Dwarka Mor Metro station for making a hoax bomb call, a Metro official said.

The caller claimed that a bomb was planted at the Rajiv Chowk Metro station Dec 6.

“The man identified as 22-year-old Prashant Pandey was apprehended at the Dwaraka Mor Metro station Monday morning,” spokesperson of the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) Anuj Dayal said.

Pandey allegedly made the call to the Police Control Room at 10.27 p.m. following which entry into the arterial Rajiv Chowk Metro station was restricted.

An inspection was carried out by the bomb disposal squad and a dog squad. Later the security agencies said it was a hoax call.

Dayal said: “The caller was traced through CCTV footage while he was making the call from a PCO installed at Rajiv Chowk Metro station. CISF team traced his movement for eight days before he was nabbed about 9.30 a.m. today (Monday) when he was entering the Dwarka Mor Metro station.”

The CCTV footage revealed Pandey was a DMRC smart-card user. The card’s details were found by matching the time code in the footage.

He said Pandey was now under police custody at the Rajouri Garden police station.

In July, another hoax caller Ajit Singh was nabbed and booked under Section 67 of Delhi Metro O and M Act (obstructing running of trains, interfering with working mechanism). Hoax call is punishable with imprisonment up to four years or fine up to Rs.5,000 or both.
