Lucknow, Dec 17 (IANS) The Indian Industries Association (IIA) of Uttar Pradesh Wednesday demanded air freight subsidy for exporters from the state using the air cargo facility in New Delhi.
The IIA sent a proposal to V. Rajgopalan, the state’s principal secretary for the small-scale industries and export promotion, saying the state government’s air freight subsidy scheme was ineffective in helping the exporters.
“Our proposal highlights the inconvenience faced by the exporters of western Uttar Pradesh when it comes to utilising the air cargo facility which is available only at Lucknow and Varanasi at present,” IIA executive director D.S. Verma told IANS.
The subsidy scheme allows the exporters to use the air cargo facility in these airports at low rates. But, Verma said: “Lucknow and Varanasi do not have flights to many countries and because of this, the exporters are also compelled to use the air cargo facility at Delhi.”
The industry association demanded the same subsidy benefits at Delhi airport also.
If the proposal is accepted, it would encourage the exporters and also contribute to the economy of the state, he said.
