Haryana jails, courts to have video-conferencing

By IANS,

Chandigarh : The Haryana government is setting up video-conferencing facility between jails and courts in various parts of the state so that dangerous criminal undertrials cannot escape during transit for court hearings.

The government has sanctioned Rs.45.2 million (Rs.4.52 crore) for installation of the video-conferencing system in jails and courts to eliminate the possibility of escape of dangerous undertrials from police custody during transit from jails to courts and back, a jails department spokesman said Sunday.

At least 25 video studios in jails and 39 in various courts are being established under the project, he added.

The facility will be used only in case of hardened and dangerous criminals, jail officials said.
