Turkey calls for urgent meetings of OIC, Muslim MPs om Gaza

Algiers : Turkey called on Saturday for urgent meetings of the Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC) and the Islamic Parliamentary Union for urgent meetings to discuss tragic developments in Gaza Strip.

Turkish parliament speaker Koksal Toptan, in a statement to reporters shortly after arrival here, said both meetings aimed at formulating a unified position of Muslim countries vis-a-vis the Israeli onslaught against the Palestinians in Gaza.

The meetings, he added, also aimed at attracting attention of countries worldwide over the Israeli killing and crimes against humanity in Gaza.

Toptan said the developments in Gaza Strip were violating the international humanitarian principles and law.

Toptan, at a bilateral level, said the relations with Algeria were progressing at many levels.
Meanwhile, Algerian prime minister Ahmad Oyahya said his country was still calling for the holding of an urgent Arab summit over Gaza.

In press remarks, Oyahya said Algeria was supprting Qatar’s call for an urgent Arab summit to discuss the bloody developments in Gaza which killed some 800 Palestinians and injured over 3,300 others.

Oyahya called for the opening of the Rafah crossing from the Egyptian side of the border to allow the entry of humanitarian and medical supplies for the needy Palestinians.

Algerian President special representative Abdulaziz Belkhadem said Algeria was not
pleased with UN resolution 1860 because it saw the victims and attackers on equal footing.
