Dhaka, Bangaldesh : Pakistan High Commissioner in Dhaka Alamgir Khan Babar hoped Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) would fully cooperate with the present Awami League government, headed by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for the welfare of the people.
“I think a good relation between a responsible political party and a democratic government is a must,” the Pakistan envoy was learned to have told BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia when he met her at the party’s Gulshan office Tuesday evening.
The Pakistan High Commissioner was the first envoy to meet Khaleda Zia after the crucial ninth parliament elections held on December 29.
After the 40-minute discussion between Begum Zia and the Pakistan envoy, BNP’s Foreign Affairs Adviser Shamsher Mobin Chowdhury, former Foreign Secretrary, told journalists that Begum Zia hoped the existing friendly relations between the two countries would be strengthened further.
“BNP is a responsible party and it’ll work responsibly,” he said quoting Khaleda Zia as saying.
Mobin said Begum Zia feels that the country’s people rely on BNP and said their real desire did not reflect in the December 29 elections.
Alamgir Khan Babar also met Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and congratulated for her party’s landslide poll victory.
