Indians in Qatar contribute to fund for Gaza victims

By IANS,

Dubai : Members of an expatriate Indian organisation in Qatar have come together and contributed 50,001 Qatari riyals (around $13,737) to a fund created for the aid of victims in the Gaza violence.

The Indian Cultural and Arts Society (Incas) has become the first expatriate organisation in that Gulf country to contribute to the Gaza Fund that was created by Qatar Charity, the largest non-government charitable organisation in Qatar.

Over 1,300 people were killed in the three-week-old Israeli attacks on Hamas-held Gaza. A unilateral ceasefire from both sides came into effect Monday.

An Incas team led by its chief patron and Pravasi Bharatiya Samman award winner C.K. Menon handed over the collected amount to Qatar Charity’s head of public relations Khalid Al-Fakhroo.

Al-Fakhroo lauded Incas for becoming the first expatriate organisation in that country to contribute to the fund.

According to Incas president K.K. Usman, the amount was collected after Incas made an appeal to its members to contribute a day’s salary to the Gaza Fund.

Qatar is home to around 420,000 expatriate Indians.
