India seeks strong action against Pakistan-based terrorism

By IANS,

New Delhi : India Thursday said that it wants “strong action”, apart from “solidarity and sympathy”, from the world community against terrorism.

“We have been saying this always that terrorists are coming from across the border and they are a threat to India. I am happy at least they (the US) have realised this,”
Defence Minister A.K. Antony said Thursday.

US President Barack Obama Thursday said Islamist extremists in Pakistan and Afghanistan posed a grave threat to his new administration. At the same time, the two countries formed the “central front” in the war against terror.

Pointing out that 30 terror outfits were active in Pakistan, Antony said: “Sympathy and solidarity is fine but what India needs is strong action against those terror outfits. All terror outfits active from Pakistan should be dismantled.

“We expect steady results to our demands apart from solidarity and sympathy. Ultimately what is needed is results and we are waiting for it,” Antony maintained.

The defence minister also added that the armed forces remain in a state of “preparedness” to meet any eventuality.
