Government determined to modernise IAF: Homi Major

By IANS,

Gandhinagar : The government is committed to modernising the Indian Air Force (IAF) and the process has been fast tracked, Air Chief Marshal Fali Homi Major said Monday.

“As the air force’s capabilities are growing, the government is taking steps to induct high-tech equipment without financial constraints,” the air force chief said.

He was speaking at the inaugural of the annual two-day commanders’ conference of air force units under the South Western Air Command (SWAC) that covers Rajasthan, Gujarat, Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh.

As the IAF was in transition, all personnel should continuously update their knowledge and training status, Major said. “There is also a need for complete synergy between the three services to meet security challenges.”

In his address, SWAC chief Air Marshal K.D. Singh detailed the various drills its personnel had participated in during 2008.

This included the prestigious Red Flag exercise with the US Air Force in Nevada. “SWAC is fully prepared to meet any eventuality.”
