Two Delhi Police officials arrested for graft

New Delhi : The Delhi government’s Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB) Friday arrested two police officials for demanding and accepting bribe from a restaurant owner.

“Both the accused were arrested by ACB Friday morning after a sting operation over a period of a month,” said Additional Commissioner of Police (ACB) N. Dalip Kumar told IANS.

They were identified as Surya Prakash Rawat, station house officer of the Bhajanpura police station in northeast Delhi, and sub-inspector Ram Kumar Tyagi of the same police station.

The ACB acted on restaurant owner Deepak Aggarwal’s complaint.

“There were 12 cabins in the restaurant and Rawat wanted Rs.1,000 each for every room. Tyagi was arrested for taking bribe of around Rs.3,000,” Kumar added.

The two were presented before Special Judge S.P. Garg who sent Rawat to judicial custody till March 4. Tyagi, however, got interim bail when his counsel told the court that his daughter was getting married Feb 22. The court accepted his plea and asked him to surrender before Feb 26.
