Lucknow : The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has raided the homes of a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) deputy inspector general and a head constable who allegedly received bribes for recruitment of constables in the paramilitary force.
Head Constable B.B. Chaubey was arrested after the raid at his Patrakarpuram residence here Tuesday night but DIG Vinod Sharma was out of the city at the time, said CRPF officials.
The sleuths recovered about Rs.125,000 from Chaubey’s residence and other important documents pertaining to the recruitment of constables that began around two months ago at the CRPF’s Bijnore group centre in Sarojinagar, Lucknow, an official disclosed.
Based on Chaubey’s disclosures, CBI teams raided Sharma’s residence in Gomti Nagar locality. Both Sharma and Chaubey have been accused of accepting bribes from candidates for recruiting them.
The recruitment of around 1,600 constables started nearly two months ago. The process is still on, sources said.
There were reports that several candidates, who did not meet the prescribed physical standards, were taken into the force during the recruitment process in which the DIG was the observer.
To gather more evidence, CBI teams have already been instructed to raid Verma’s farmhouse in Haryana and his house in Jabalpur.
