India a very important country for US, says ambassador

New Delhi, Feb 25 (KUNA) — India is a very important country for the United States and the new Barack Obama administration will make every effort to extend this relationship, said US envoy in New Delhi David Mulford.

Mulford, the outgoing US ambassador, said that there should be no doubts over the fact that new US administration would not be as warm as the erstwhile George Bush administration.

The US envoy said this in an interview with India’s premiere news agency Press Trust of India (PTI).

“The Obama administration shares the view that India is very important country to the US. There is very high regard for India and Indians living in the US. I think the Obama administration is fully aware of this and will seek to extend the relationship,” the PTI quoted him as saying in New Delhi.

Mulford’s statement assumes significance in the wake of apprehensions that the Obama administration would not be as warm and friendly to India as the Bush administration, which went out of way to sign the civil nuclear deal with India last year.
