Abu Dhabi to get Overseas Indian Centre

By IANS,

New Delhi : The cabinet Thursday approved the establishment of an Overseas Indian Centre at Abu Dhabi in place of Dubai.

“Functional requirements have necessitated the change of the headquarters of the centre from Dubai to Abu Dhabi,” Home Minister P. Chidambaram told reporters after a cabinet meeting presided over by External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee.

Mukherjee is standing in for Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, who is recuperating from coronary bypass surgery.

“The change in venue will enable better interaction with the Indian community in the Gulf,” Chidambaram said.
