Bhopal : Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has urged union ministers from the state to exercise their influence at the centre and help resolve issues that are crucial for the development of the state.
Chouhan Wednesday sent a letter alleging “partial and unjust treatment being meted out to the state by the central government” to Human Resources Development Minister Arjun Singh, Commerce and Industries Minister Kamal Nath, Minister of State for Agriculture, Food and Public Distribution and Consumer Affairs Kantilal Bhuraia and Minister of State for Information Technology Jyotiraditya Scindia.
“The Indian constitution and relevant traditions demand that the central government should mete out fair and just treatment to the states. The dependence of states on centre in matters related to central and concurrent lists is naturally obvious,” Chouhan said in the letter, a copy of which is with IANS.
Chouhan drew the attention of the central ministers towards inadequate coal supply for thermal power plants in Madhya Pradesh, reduction in unallocated power quota, non-provision of assistance for drought relief, inadequate assistance under the Indira Awas Yojana.
He also demanded compensation to Madhya Pradesh since the forest cover is more than national average, refunding of the money deposited with the Compensatory Afforestation Management and Planning Authority (CAMPA), central assistance to tackle the problems of terrorism and Maoist insurgency.
The chief minister pointed out that he has already drawn the attention of the prime minister and concerned union ministers towards these issues but their redressal has been delayed without any justifiable reason.
In his letter, Chouhan said that since the union ministers represent Madhya Pradesh, he expects cooperation from them.
