Tehran : Iran is the best friend of Arab nations, said Chairman of the Assembly of Experts of the Leadership Ayatollah Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani on Tuesday.
Addressing an official meeting of the assembly, the senior cleric condemned some recent moves made by certain states to put Arab countries against Iran.
Similar moves were made by certain states in the early days of the victory of Iran’s 1979 Islamic Revolution to portrait Iran, instead of the Zionist regime, to the Arab nations as “the number one danger” in the region, Rafsanjani said.
Stressing that those “moves could be dangerous for all regional states,” the ayatollah hoped for the stop of making similar acts in the future.
The fifth official meeting of the 4th Assembly of Experts of the Leadership started its work on Tuesday morning to select new members of its presiding board.
Rafsanjani was re-elected as the chairman of the 86-member body wining 51 out of the total 79 cast votes.
After the demise of the assembly’s first chairman, the late Ayatollah Ali Meshkini, on July 30, 2007, Rafsanjani was elected as the body’s chairman.
The Assembly of Experts is a major supervisory body in charge of selecting Iran’s Supreme Leader and supervising his work.
