Decision on IPL schedule only after report from states: Chidambaram

By IANS,

New Delhi : A decision on the schedule of IPL matches will be taken only after concerned state governments give their responses to the revised schedule, Home Minister P. Chidambaram said here Wednesday.

The central government had received the revised schedule submitted by the organisers of the Twenty20 cricket tournament and had sent it to the governments of the states where the Indian Premier League (IPL) matches were proposed, Chidambaram told reporters after a meeting of the union cabinet.

The IPL schedule is under question this year because it overlaps with the general elections schedule to a large extent, and security forces would be stretched. The government has made it clear to the organisers that it will not be able to spare any of the paramilitary forces and wanted state governments to pledge security for the match venues and cricketers.

The IPL management had Tuesday sent a third revised schedule to the home ministry.

In the schedule, Jaipur and Delhi will not be hosting any of the matches. Alternate venues like Dharamsala and Ahmedabad are being considered.
