Patna : Janata Dal-United (JD-U) chief Sharad Yadav fell ill when visiting his Madhepura Lok Sabha constituency in Bihar and has been advised rest for three-four days, party leaders and doctors said here Monday.
Yadav was to be shifted to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in New Delhi by evening for full check-up and treatment for suspected viral infection, JD-U sources here said.
He returned from Madhepura, about 300 km from here, to Patna late Monday night after suffering from high fever, uneasiness and weakness.
“A team of doctors examined him and found his condition stable. They suspect viral infection,” a JD-U leader close to Yadav said.
Bihar Chief Minister and fellow JD-U leader Nitish Kumar visited him at his hotel here to inquire about his health.
“Doctors have advised him three-four days’ rest. There is nothing serious,” Kumar told newspersons later.
S.N. Mishra, the doctor who treated Yadav, said he was advised complete rest and all his election-related programmes were cancelled for the time being.
Yadav had been elected to the Lok Sabha from Madhepura thrice but was defeated in 2004 by Railways Minister and Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief Lalu Prasad.
After Nitish Kumar, Yadav is the most important campaigner for the ruling JD-U in Bihar.
JD-U is contesting 25 of the 40 Lok Sabha seats in Bihar, leaving 15 seats to its alliance partner Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
