Maudany’s wife under court’s scanner in arson case

By IANS,

Aluva (Kerala) : A Kerala court Wednesday asked the police to probe People’s Democratic Party (PDP) chief Abdul Nasir Maudany’s wife for her role in burning of a bus by party activists in 2005.

Maudany was jailed in 1998 for his alleged involvement in serial bomb blasts in Coimbatore targeting Bharatiya Janata Party leader L.K. Advani in 1996.

In 2005, PDP activists burned a Tamil Nadu government-owned bus after reports that Maudany was badly treated in the Coimbatore jail. Maudany was subsequently acquitted and released in 2007.

Magistrate V.S. Vidyadharan Wednesday asked the police to probe the role of Sufiya Maudany in the case on a petition filed by A.C. Jose.

The petition quotes media reports that said that one of the arrested had contacted Sufiya on her mobile after the incident took place.

The magistrate has directed the police to submit the report by June 1 when the case has been posted for hearing.
