Ghaziabad : Three people were arrested here Wednesday after a kidnapped child was recovered from one of them, the Ghaziabad police said, adding efforts were on to find out if they were running a large-scale racket of abducting children and forcing them to beg.
The police traced Priya, a four-year-old child abducted March 6, and recovered her from Muskan, in her in 20s, and arrested her as well as her accomplices Roshni and a male who was yet to be identified.
“We have been able to bust the gang after a tip-off from an informer. The woman had planned to amputate the child’s limb to make her a begger. But we have been able to rescue her in time,” Superintendent of Police (City) Anand Dev said.
Priya’s father Jai Prakash said the police had initially ignored his requests to register a case and trace her.
Circle Officer Rahul Srivastava, who led the team that recovered the child, said the �operation Masoom’ was on in the district and the police focus was on the border areas from where cases of missing children were frequently reported.
In the last week of March, the police recovered three children who were abducted from Bhovapur locality bordering the capital.
“On Tuesday night, we received a tip-off from an informer in Khoda colony here, who said a woman there was mercilessly beating a child. She already had one child and yet another child was found with her in the last few days.
“The police then raided her residence and recovered the child from her. Injuries on her right eye and inflammatory abrasions on her arm and leg suggested that she was planning to amputate the child’s limb and send her for begging on the streets,” said the officer.
During sustained interrogation, she revealed her name was Muskan, daughter of Mohammad Rafiq, who is a guard in Ramprastha colony.
Her accomplice Roshni said she was involved in prostitution and other anti-social activities but remained silent on abduction charges, added the officer.
