Mumbai: Hundreds of students and parents thronged the Alma Latifi Hall of Saboo Siddik College in Byculla in the inaugural session of the two-day Career Fest Vision 2015 program.
Different Muslim organizations including Anjuman-e-Islam, KAWISH and Association of Muslim Professionals have organized the fest to provide proper guidance to the students.
‘While many students study in schools the Sachar Committee Report reveals that only 8% of them (4% from colleges and other 4% from madrasas) complete graduation. There is the absence of guidance. The fest is a platform for counseling,’ said Sharul Sayid, one of the organizers.
Addressing the audience in the inauguration session Mr Sami Khatib, president Anjuman-e-Islam in his presidential note said, ‘Parents should perceive the interest of children and put them in the professional courses accordingly.’
In her observation that only academic qualification was not enough unless accompanied by effective personality Mrs. Najma remarked that now the jack of all trades and ‘master of all’ has great value.
It is a bitter reality that the students emerging toppers in HSC and HHC cannot maintain the same position in future. ‘Our students lack awareness and timely proper guidance. Some of them even lack future planning, and so they do not have firm resolution’ said Shahid Latif, editor Inquilab Urdu Daily.
Joint Commissioner Law & Order K L Prasad urged that a ‘value system’ must be developed. ‘Unless students learn to respect their parents, teachers and elders their education is fruitless.’
The speakers were of the view that attention must be given towards co-curricular activities so that students not interested in curricular subjects make in it a profession for themselves.
Role models with specialization in variety of professions like journalism, stock market and engineering etc. participated in the ‘Talk Show With Role Models’ program that followed the Inaugural sessions.
‘I have come here to know the fields I can venture into. Though I have fixed my target but might be I will not be eligible for the same,’ said Abdur Rafe, 17, who has completed HSC adding, ‘In the case I have right knowledge about different courses I can guide many students if they consult me.’
Arranged in different lines at the ground of the college many stalls with experts in the fields of Aviation, Chartered Accountancy, Civil Service, Traveling, Banking & Finance and Law among others were providing minute guidance to the students. The stall of Markazul Ma’arif Education & Research Centre was unique of all as it provided career guidance for Ulama.
In the fest presentations were made by prominent scholars also on ‘Hotel Management & Aviation, Career in Judiciary, Banking and Finance and Career in Biotechnology.
