PM not speaking truth on Tytler, Sajjan: Jaitley

By IANS,

Chandigarh : Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Arun Jaitley Sunday challenged Prime MInister Manmohan Singh’s claim that he was unaware of the clean chit given to Congress leaders Jagdish Tytler and Sajjan Kumar by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in the 1984 anti-Sikh riots cases.

“This is false and the ruling government is trying to divert the public attention from their misdeeds,” Jaitley said while addressing a party meeting here.

“I challenge Manmohan Singh’s claim that he was unaware of the clean chit given to Jagdish Tytler and Sajjan Kumar. He did not tell the truth about the situation,” said Jaitley, who is the BJP national general secretary.

Manmohan Singh Friday, interacting with women journalists in New Delhi, had said: “I was not informed or consulted. When I came to of it (about the clean chit), I spoke to the CBI director. He said it was routine report made in connection with court case. Any charge that we have manipulated the CBI report is totally false.”

But Jaitley refuted the claims and said: “He is trying to fool people and his image of the weakest prime minister ever cannot be changed by such statements.”

The BJP leader said that the Congress deliberately gave tickets to Tytler and Sajjan Kumar, both accused in the riots, and this was a matter of national shame.

Jaitley blamed the Congress for the economic crisis in the country saying that the policies of the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government were flawed.
