Chandigarh : Illegally kept drugs and medicines worth Rs.15 lakh were seized from Dabwali town of Haryana Monday, police said here.

The Haryana Police recovered 139 boxes containing 61 types of drugs from two unauthorised godowns at Dabwali town, 300 km from here, during a joint raid by a team of police, health officials and district authorities.

“The recovered drugs were valued at Rs.15 lakh,” a police officer said. Some of the drugs were manufactured by leading pharmaceutical companies.

The drugs were illegally stored by the owner of a pharmaceutical store, Jindal Medicos. The owner, Rakesh Kumar, was arrested following the raids.

The police officer said the raids were carried out following a tip-off from the Drugs Controller of Hanumangarh town nearby. The drugs and medicines were being illegally distributed in areas of adjoining Punjab and Rajasthan.

Other godowns of the medical store in nearby areas were also being checked, the officer added.
