Sanjay Dutt, Amar Singh in trouble for ‘insulting’ Mayawati

By IANS,

Lucknow : Actor-turned-politician Sanjay Dutt is in trouble again for making “insulting” remarks against Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati.

Dutt and Samajwadi Party (SP) general secretary Amar Singh have been booked for their alleged offensive comments against Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati at a weekend election meeting in Bijnor, some 350 km from Lucknow, the police said Wednesday.

“Sanjay Dutt and Amar Singh have been booked under section 171 G (false statement in connection with an election in relation to the personal character or conduct of any candidate) for making insulting comments against the chief minister,” deputy superintendent of police Shirish Chandra told IANS.

A BSP leader in Bijnor alleged that Amar Singh told the May 3 rally that “Maya aur Atalji ka teen baar siyasi nikaah ho chuka hai lekin abhi talaq talaq talaq nahin hua hai (Maya and Atalji have been married politically three times but still haven’t divorced).”

The SP leader was referring to the three political tie-up between Mayawati’s BSP and former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) as a Muslim marriage, which is yet to be called off by the triple talaq.

Undeterred by obscenity complaints filed against him earlier for offering “jadoo ki jhappi” (a magical hug) and “pappi” (kiss) to Mayawati, Dutt is said to have repeated the offer for the BSP chief. Two FIRs for using “objectionable words” were already registered against the Bollywood star, who is now SP national general secretary.

The latest case against Dutt and Amar Singh was registered Tuesday late evening, following the directives of district authorities, the police officer said.
