One killed in explosion outside polling station in West Bengal

Kolkata : One man was killed and three policemen sustained splinter injuries when bombs were hurled outside a booth during polling at Asansol in West Bengal’s Burdwan district Thursday.

Inspector General of Police (Law and Order) Raj Kanojia told IANS: “There was an incident of bomb hurling outside a booth in Asansol, in which three policemen were injured. One man was also injured and he later died in hospital.”

The incident took place around 1 p.m., stalling the vote process.

Following the incident, enraged locals gutted several cars and four wheelers.

Police reinforcements were rushed to control the situation. Three persons have been arrested.

“The situation is normal now and the polling process has re-started,” he added.
