Ranchi : Almost a month after five villagers termed Maoist rebels were killed by security personnel, a detailed report on the incident has been submitted to the Jharkhand government. State Governor Syed Sibte Razi Tuesday said “justice will be done”.
Commissioner of Palamau range A.K. Pandey, who was asked to probe into the killings of five villagers, submitted the report Monday. “I will not speak on the issue,” Pandey told IANS Tuesday.
The villagers were killed in Badhania village of Lathear district on April 15, a day before the first phase of Lok Sabha polls.
Maoist rebels had detonated a landmine in Badhania in which two Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel and a bus driver were killed. After the blast, a gun battle between the CRPF and the Maoist rebels took place. Police claimed that five guerrillas were killed in the gun battle.
The villagers and Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) contested the claim and termed the gun battle as fake. Villagers charged that five people were dragged out of their houses and shot dead by security personnel.
Later, a probe was ordered into the incident after the validity of the gun battle was questioned.
Razi said Tuesday: “We have received the report and justice will be done.”
The government officials, however, are tight-lipped over the details of the report. Sources in the government revealed that the people who were killed were innocent.
