Islamabad : Security forces have killed 1,057 militants since major operation has been launched against the miscreants in Swat and other areas in Malakand, said army spokesman Wednesday.
Major General Athar Abbas also said after his briefing that a total of 58 security men have also lost lives and 187 others were injured.
He told a news conference that 80 miscreants and terrorists were killed during the last 24 hours while the forces cleared Sultanwas, the main stronghold of the terrorists in Buner after intense clashes.
He said the militants had made underground concrete bunkers and ammunition dumps.
Abbas added that one solider was killed while nine others were injured in various areas of Swat during the past 24 hours.
He said, “Six vehicles of militants which were under the use of the terrorists, clad in black uniform were destroyed during the operation.”
Security forces defused seven improvised explosive devices during the action.
The spokesman said that the search and destroy operation continue in Piochar, the stronghold and training center of the Taliban in Swat, while clearance of compounds and houses in Matta town is still in proceeding.
Search operation also continues in Kanju area of Swat where three soldiers were injured during the operation. During the action, one solider was killed and six others injured.
He said the militants can not flee to other areas from Swat as the forces have surrounded them from four directions.
To a question he said that the Pakistani troops will not be withdrawn from country’s eastern border with India due to tension.
