Nearly 48,000 score above 90 percent in CBSE class 10 exams

New Delhi : As many as 47,821 students scored 90 percent or above in the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) class 10 exams, whose results were announced Friday; 4,933 scored 95 percent and above.

There was a whopping increase in the number of students who have scored 90 percent or more this year. In 2008, 29,936 students scored 90 percent or above.

Students in the Chennai region topped the list with 15,735 students scoring above 90 percent. Allahabad region stood second with 13,893 getting crossing 90 percent mark.

A total of 23,020 girls and 24,801 boys in the six zones from which results have been announced scored 90 percent or above while 4,933 scored 95 percent and above.

This year 828,598 students – 343,467 girls and 485,131 boys – took the class 10 exams in India and abroad.

The overall pass percentage – at 88.84 – recorded a marginal increase of 1.76 percent from last year. Girls have done better than boys with the pass percentage at 89.78 as compared to 88.18 for boys.

The overall pass percentage was the highest in the Chennai region – 95.60 percent.
