New Delhi : Girls have yet again outperformed boys in the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) Class 10 examination. While the pass percentage for girls was 89.78 percent, that of boys was 88.18.
The CBSE Class 10 results for three zones – Delhi, Allahabad and Guwahati – was declared Friday. The results of the other three zones – Ajmer, Chennai and Panchkula – were declared Tuesday.
“The overall pass percentage recorded a marginal increase of 1.76 percent from last year. The pass percentage this year was 88.84 percent,” Rama Sharma, the CBSE spokesperson said.
Of the six regions, Chennai recorded the best pass percentage of 95.60. It was followed by Ajmer (94.14), Allahabad (89.54), Panchkula (88.95), Delhi (87.70) and Guwahati (60.42).
In the Gulf region too, there was a marginal rise in the overall pass percentage. Performing better than their Indian counterparts, students in the region recorded a pass percentage of 97.66 percent – an increase of 0.43 percent from last year.
Girls in the Gulf region have also performed better than boys. While the pass percentage of girls was 98.64, that of boys was 96.69. A total of 11,210 students – 5,595 girls and 5,615 boys – appeared for the Class 10 exams from various Gulf countries this year.
According to the CBSE officials, there has been a whopping rise in the number of students who scored 90 percent and above in the board exams.
As many as 47,821 students scored 90 percent or above in the class 10 exams; 4,933 scored 95 percent and above. In 2008, 29,936 students scored 90 percent or above in these exams.
Thirty-eight of those students who scored above 90 suffer from some kind of disability, Sharma said.
The autonomous Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas performed better than other schools across India with a record pass percentage of 97.84.
There has also be a rise in the number of perfect 100 scorers in the Class 10 exams.
“Last year the total number of students scoring 100 in the Class 10 exams was 5,071. This year it increased to 7,099,” Sharma said.
Amongst other subjects, a total of 4,443 students scored full marks in mathematics this year, as compared to 2,647 last year.
This year 828,598 students – 485,131 boys and 343,467 girls – appeared for the board exams in India and abroad.
