Gandhinagar : A timer device has been recovered from a rail track near Ismail Nagar section, a few miles from the Anand railway station in Gujarat Monday, police said.
The timer device, that resembles a bomb, was set at 5.02 a.m. but stopped working at 4.40 a.m. It did not explode probably due to some technical fault.
A police officer said the device was found by a passerby near the railway track who immediately informed the police.
“The Anand police personnel along with the Railway Protection Force and Government Railway Police reached the spot along with sniffer dogs and a bomb disposal squad. The device was found inside an iron box with an open battery compartment,” the officer added.
A number of trains had passed from the Ismail Nagar section of the track between 3 a.m. and 5 a.m.
Anand is about 80 km from Gandhinagar.
