New Delhi : An Afghan man and an Indian woman were arrested here Friday with Rs.3 crore (Rs.30 million) worth of high quality heroin, police said. A Nigerian man is sought in the case.

Asmile Musa, 53, and Lalmuanpuii Hnamte Apui, 24, of Mizoram were taken into custody near the Iskon temple in East of Kailash with three kg of heroin, said Alok Kumar, deputy police commissioner of the Special Cell.

According to police, Musa was earlier arrested in 2000 by the Narcotics Control Bureau with four kg of heroin.

He was sentenced to 10 years rigorous imprisonment but let out on bail in February this year.

“Thereafter he got in touch with Vincet John, a Nigerian. He used to receive heroin and supply it to John. From there the drugs went into international market,” said the official.

Apui, a graduate, works as a therapist in a hotel in Connaught Place.

“She said that she was fond of lavish lifestyle and frequently visited discos. There she met a Nigerian and agreed to act as a courier for John,” Kumar said.

The heroin was hidden in boxes of fruits imported from Afghanistan. The police are hunting for John.
