New Delhi: Interacting with media persons, the union state minister in-charge of ministry for minorities’ affairs, Salman Khursheed today said: “Provision has been made for backwards including backward Muslims under 27 per cent OBC quota. If this is found insufficient, other alternatives will be considered.”
The minister further said, “Government is exploring all available avenues to empower Muslims and make them prosperous and encouraging action is one of them.” He conceded, “In some sense, reservations could also be seen as encouraging action but positive encouragement goes far beyond.”
However, arguing that taking reservation as the only means to realize right is wrong, “I had advocated for reservation as a member of Uttar Pradesh manifesto committee but since Congress is not in power there, there is no question of its implementation” said Mr. Salman.
