Islamabad : A high-level French delegation arrived here on Thursday to extend the discussions of President Asif Ali Zardari and military Chief General Pervaiz Kayani during their visits to Paris in May, said an official statement. The delegation from the Presidency of the French Republic is being led by Admiral Edouard Guillaud, Chief of the Personal Military Staff to the President of the French Republic, said the press statement.
It said the visit is aimed at extend the discussions of Pakistani military and political leadership to Pairs, adding that the fight against terrorism is a key matter of concern for the international community. The French embassy in a statement said that “within the framework of our common goal to fight terrorism, this visit aims at strengthening our bilateral cooperation in the field of defence and security”.
During the visit, Admiral Guillaud and his delegation will call on President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani, Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee, General Tariq Majid and Chief of Army Staff, General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani. They will conduct in-depth meetings on the international situation, the fight against terrorism and the bilateral cooperation in this field, said the French embassy statement. Frances objective is to offer its political and military cooperation and support to Pakistani Authorities in the strengthening of their dauntless fight against terrorism and extremism, it said. France, it added, wishes to contribute to regional security and stability through a reinforced dialogue on these matters.
