Report of Indians killed in Afghanistan not confirmed: government

By IANS,

New Delhi/Kabul : Indian external affairs ministry officials Saturday said there was “no confirmation” of Pakistani media reports that six Indian nationals were killed in a Taliban attack in Afghanistan.

“The Indian mission has been approached, but there is no confirmation of the report,” an Indian external affairs ministry official told IANS in New Delhi.

However, an Indian television channel Times Now said the Indian mission in Kabul has denied the media report of six Indians being killed.

According to Dawn News of Pakistan, six Indian nationals were among 18 people killed in a Taliban attack on an Indian construction company in Afghanistan’s Paktia province Friday night.

The Afghan Taliban claimed responsibility for the attack in which 20 people were also injured.

Pakistani media released a grainy video the attack. The video shows a group of Taliban fighters attacking with rocket launchers and AK-47 assault rifles the office of what they claim is the Indian construction company.

The low-resolution footage also showed an explosion and flames erupting as the men continued firing.

The Taliban spokesman purportedly told the channel that the Indian firm, described as the subsidiary of an American company, was attacked because it was a “centre of anti-Islamic activities”. The firm was building a USAID-funded road between Khost and Paktia provinces.
