New Delhi : The excitement of the century’s longest total solar eclipse was quite evident from the sales of Gnomon Astrotech, a Delhi based firm that sold a record 50,000 solar goggles across India in just two days.
The company imported a large number of solar goggles, solar filter films and telescopes from a US-based firm to meet the huge demand during the celestial spectacle.
“We were expecting a large sale of solar viewing gadgets during the total solar eclipse. We had demands pouring in across India. We are the only authorized company to sell these gadgets in Delhi,” Gitanjalee, an executive in the operations department of Gnomon Astrotech, told IANS.
The firm provided thousands of solar goggles to Nehru Planetarium, Patna Planetarium, Lucknow Planetarium and many other amateur astronomical societies.
“We have sold 50,000 solar goggles, 2,000 solar films and five telescopes in the last three days. A large amount of stock was sent to other places some days back,” said Gitanjalee.
The solar goggles were sold at prices between Rs.25 and Rs.50 while the solar filter films, used for clicking images, were sold for Rs.600 per square feet.
Solar goggles are made from a special filter film through which the eclipsed sun can be viewed safely.
