Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh Congress chief Rita Bahuguna Joshi Wednesday moved the Allahabad High Court, seeking a probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) into the arson attack on her house last week.
Joshi moved a fresh petition Wednesday after withdrawing Tuesday an earlier writ petition filed Monday.
Apart from a CBI inquiry, she has also sought that the case lodged against her in Moradabad for the remarks she made against Chief Minister Mayawati be quashed.
The high court is set to hear her plea Friday.
Joshi’s house here was set on fire last Wednesday night allegedly by a group of ruling Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) workers following her remarks against Mayawati.
Joshi was arrested early Thursday and charged under the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. She was granted bail by a Moradabad court Saturday. She has already expressed regret for her remarks.
The Uttar Pradesh government has asked the Crime Branch-Criminal Investigation Department (CB-CID) to investigate the arson attack, but the Congress has insisted on a CBI probe.
