Chandigarh: After converting to Islam last year to marry a second time, former Haryana deputy chief minister Chander Mohan alias Chand Mohammed took a u-turn Monday and expressed his desire to return to the Hindu religion.
“I have approached the leadership of my community and expressed my desire to come back. Fiza did not bother to visit me when I was recovering in a hospital. Now I don’t want to live with her,” he told reporters in Haryana’s Hisar town, some 275 km from here.
“I love my mother very much. She remained with me in the times of trouble. She has suffered a lot and now I want to stay with her. Very soon I will return to serious politics and would contest in the forthcoming assembly elections,” he added.
Chand said he was upset that Fiza did not come to meet him when he was admitted at Indraprastha Apollo Hospital in New Delhi, where he underwent a surgery for a fractured joint.
Son of former Haryana chief minister Bhajan Lal, Chand had lost the deputy chief minister’s post after marrying Fiza.
However, lashing out at Chand, his estranged wife Fiza said here Monday: “I will not forgive Chand for this humiliation. Now if he tries to approach me again, I will not even talk to him.”
“His whole family, including his father, mother and brother, are not in a stable state of mind. Chand has crossed all the limits of betrayal,” she added.
The two had secretly got married in November 2008 after converting to Islam. Chand was already married to Seema Bishnoi and they have three children.
Both surfaced after their marriage in Uttar Pradesh’s Meerut city December 2008. After staying together for nearly 40 days, Chand suddenly left her house and was later traced in London.
Adding drama to the controversial marriage, he then “divorced” her over phone and through SMS February 2009. But in June, he apologised to her and again started living with her in her house in Mohali town, adjoining Chandigarh.
Chand met with an accident July 8, in which he fractured his hip joint. Fiza was away to Malaysia to take part in a reality show, at that time.
