Lucknow: The Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) of the Uttar Pradesh police Tuesday arrested a travel agency owner in the state capital, allegedly involved in sending people to other countries on fake documents.
A large number of passports and other documents were seized from the possession of Mohammad Akram Kazmi.
“Based on a tip-off, police raided the Al-Tehran Tour and Travels in the Kaiserbagh area and arrested Kazmi. 11 passports of various countries, 56 photocopies of passports and other documents related to sending people abroad were recovered from his office,” Additional Director General of Police Brijlal told reporters.
During interrogation, Kazmi confessed sending over a 100 people to various countries in the Gulf region on fake documents in the past few years.
Brijlal said the police also raided another travel agency, Diva Travels and Tours, on suspicion that it was also involved in similar activities. However, its owner Javed Ahmed managed to escape. Similar recoveries were also made from his office.
The police have also gathered information about travel agencies in other districts of the state that are involved in similar activities and more arrests are expected soon, he added.
