National squash championships postponed due to swine flue scare

By IANS,

Chennai: The 57th Kingfisher senior National and Inter-State Squash Championships, scheduled to be held in New Delhi Aug 16-24, has been postponed indefinitely due to the prevailing swine flu in various parts of the country.

Squash Rackets Federation of India (SRFI) secretary-general Srivatsan Subramaniam confirmed this Wednesday in a press statement.

The postponement of the national championship was to be expected with the SRFI deciding against taking any risk of exposing players to the dreaded H1N1 flu virus that is sweeping across the country and has caused 17 deaths.

The SRFI last week successfully held the 13th Junior world championship, in which over 100 players took part. The flu breakout, however, coincided with the conclusion of the tournament.
