13 new swine flu cases in Kerala, total 69

Thiruvananthapuram: Thirteen new cases of swine flu were confirmed in Kerala Saturday, taking the number of those infected to 69, officials said.

Amar S. Fettle, the nodal officer for swine flu, told IANS that he had spoken to some of the patients and informed them of the precautions they should take.

“All of them have been extensively briefed on what to do. I told them that they should take lot of fluids, have lot of good food and absolute rest. They should wear a mask and remained quarantined at home. There is no need for any panic because if patients do as the doctors say, it would go off just like a common cold,” he said.

The new cases were reported from Thiruvananthapuram and Ernakulam (four each), Kozhikode (two) and one each in Trissur, Malappuram and Palakkad.

One swine flu victim had died earlier this week.

Kerala has been demanding that a testing facility be opened at the Rajiv Gandhi Centre for Biotechnology here. A central government team has already inspected he centre and it is likely that approval for conducting tests might be given next week.
