Bangalore : Cytotron, a device developed by the city-based medical technology firm Scalene Cybernetics for treatment of cancer and osteoarthritis, has received the European Union (EU) certification from Underwriters Laboratories, a worldwide independent product safety certification organisation.
The Conformity Europa (CE) certificate, a regulatory requirement for compliance, will enable Scalene to sell the 2,400 kilogram medical device to hospitals and institutes in European and other international markets.
“We got 53 enquiries till date from Europe, Middle East, Australia, Canada, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand and South Africa since we received the CE certification on July 10,” Scalene chairman Rajah Vijay Kumar told reporters here Wednesday.
Scalene is in the process of getting similar certification from Malaysia and Canada to comply with local regulations.
“We have subjected the device to stringent tests under the CE programme for certification. This will pave way for exporting Cytotron worldwide in compliance with country-specific regulations,” said R.A. Venkitachalam, Underwriters Laboratories managing director for emerging markets.
Scalene has so far sold 14 machines, priced at about Rs.2.5 crore, in India.
“We are targeting sales of about 1,000 machines worldwide over the next six-seven years,” Kumar said.
