Hyderabad : A prisoner died at a city hospital Friday of injuries sustained in a clash with another prisoner. His relatives allege that he died of physical torture by the jail staff.
Authorities of Cherlapally Central Jail say that inmate Bhaskar died of injuries he had received a few days ago in a clash with another prisoner.
Bhaskar, 35, a native of Warangal, was sentenced to life imprisonment in a murder case. He died at Osmania General Hospital early Friday.
Sambasiva Rao, resident medical officer, Osmania Hospital, told newspersons that the prisoner was declared brought dead at the casualty ward and his body was shifted to mortuary for autopsy.
The family members of Bhaskar however allege that his body bore torture marks. They wanted to know why Bhaskar was brought to the hospital Friday when the jail authorities claim that he received injuries in a clash on Monday.
Jail authorities have not yet come out with a statement. However, sources said an inquiry has been ordered into the incident.
