Malappuram: Nagaraj Jambai, the main accused in the Hubli court blast case in Karnataka, died at Karnataka Institute of Medical Sciences yesterday. He succumbed to his injuries after he was beaten up by his associates in jail. Nagaraj was a native of Bilagi in Bagalkot district.
Nagaraj was reportedly the leader of a gang of murderers and kidnappers. He was also reported to be involved in the Hubli court blast case. The trial of suspected SIMI activists was going on in the court then.
Nagaraj was assaulted by his associates when in judicial custody in Bagalkot jail in July. He had severe head injuries and was taken to the KIMS Hospital on July 18. He was kept under observation in the Intensive Care unit for more than a month. He was reportedly shifted to a ward three days ago following improvement in his condition. However, his condition worsened on Wednesday and he died.
