Holders Chelsea travel to Hull in Carling Cup third round

London : Carling Cup holders Chelsea face a tricky trip to Championship club Hull in the third round of the competition in the week commencing Sep 24, while last season’s beaten finalists Arsenal face Newcastle United in one of several all-Premier League ties.

In Saturday’s draw, Blackburn Rovers face Birmingham, Reading are at home to Liverpool, Tottenham Hotspur play Middlesbrough and Fulham meet Bolton in other all top-flight ties, while Manchester United are at home to Championship leaders Coventry, West Ham United face Plymouth at Upton Park and Manchester City have home advantage against Norwich.

Premier League clubs playing away from home include Everton at Sheffield Wednesday and Portsmouth at Burnley.

The winners of the abandoned tie between Nottingham Forest and Leicester City will visit Aston Villa, whose manager Martin O’Neill played for the former and managed the latter.

Nottingham and Leicester will replay their game Sep 18 after Leicester defender Clive Clarke collapsed during the original game at the City Ground.

Luton’s reward for beating Sunderland in the second round, meanwhile, is a home tie against Charlton Athletic.
