Lucknow : The new Director General of Uttar Pradesh Police Karam Veer Singh Wednesday said that his top priority would be to increase the credibility of the police and make the force more sensitive.
Taking charge from his predecessor, Vikram Singh, Karam Veer Singh said: “We (the police force) should always react instantly to extend all possible help to the helpless. For this, we need to be more sensitive and also focus on increasing our credibility amongst people.”
On Tuesday, Chief Minister Mayawati ordered the removal of Vikram Singh in view of the deteriorating law and order situation in the state, a spokesman from her office said.
Karam Veer Singh, a 1975 batch Indian Police Service (IPS) officer, was relieved from the post of special director general of police of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) earlier this week.
“We will also ensure protection to officials and cops who are performing well. However, the poor performers will not be given any protection of any kind,” Karam Veer Singh added.
“However, I will take some time to understand the law and order situation of the state as I was not here for the past six months,” he added.
Vikram Singh has not been given any charge as yet, officials informed.
