Kochi: Kadeesumma is back home in Malappuram after celebrating Eid in the Rashtrapathi Bhavan. It was her first Eid away home, but the 75-year old says she has no regrets as she celebrated it with the President of the country.
Kadeesumma of Areacode in Malappuram was one among the 53 persons selected for the party organized by President Prathibha Patil for the newly literates in the country. She left for Delhi in the Kerala Express along with Usha Kelu, member of Mananthawadi village panchayath in Wayanad district, and Bindu Damodaran of Rattakochi in Meppadi. The three women set out on their journey to the Rashtrapathi Bhavan on Friday and came back yesterday.
The new literate began to learn in 1999 by the encouragement of literacy activists who visited her home. Saksharatha Prerak Rosna led her to the world of reading and writing. She is now eager to learn more. She went to New Delhi with the joy of having passed the fourth standard equivalent exam. Now she is all set to write the seventh standard equivalent.
The village woman from Malappuram is overjoyed to have got the opportunity to dine with the President. She has only good memories about her time in the country’s capital. She now wishes others also to have such gains in life. She also encourages all people to come to the world of words.
