By IANS,

Islamabad : A foreigner and a Pakistani woman were killed Monday when a blast tore through the UN World Food Programme (WFP) office, close to President Asif Ali Zardari’s private residence, in an upscale locality of this Pakistan capital.

Bin Yamin, deputy inspector general (operations), said: “We moved six wounded people to hospital and two of them are dead.” Two foreigners were amongst those injured.

While one of the dead was a foreigner, the other was a Pakistani woman, said Waseem Khawaja, a doctor at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences.

A police official told Geo News that seven to eight kg of explosives could have been used and the bomb was planted in the lobby of the office, located in a rented house.

The president condemned the blast and ordered immediate inquiry.

The WFP office is located at F-8 sector of downtown Islamabad that houses several offices and homes of foreign diplomats. The private house of President Zardari is also located in the F-8 sector, Xinhua reported.

The explosion caused a major blaze in the WFP office and thick smoke began to billow out of the building.

About 70 WFP employees were at work when the blast occurred, DPA said.
