Warsaw : A well-known Indian writer and curator Akumal Ramachander has been awarded a special diploma for his outstanding services for promoting Polish culture in India.

In a special award ceremony, organised by Poland’s foreign ministry, Ramachander was given the award along with 16 other people by Foreign Minister Radoslw Sikorski here on Thursday.

“We are proud and grateful to you for promoting Polish culture in your great country which is a history of more than five thousand years. Your passion for Polish culture is superb and the way you had organised a Polsih week of culture in Banglore in March this year is remarakble,” said the minister.

Ramchander is the first Indian who has got this prize ever since it was instituted in 1970.

Krzysztof Zanussi, the legendary Polish film director who had gone to Banglore to attend the film festival, said,” Akumal is the real cultural ambassador of Poland to India. Single handily with his dedication and hard work he has put up Polish cultural presence on Indian map.”

In Poland, Ramachaner is famous for his book, Little Pig which came out in December 1993 and since then it has been reprinted many times. The book has been translated to several European languages including Polish.
