New Delhi: “ Separate Telangana statehood is the birth right of its people,” said Hyderabad-based Civil Liberties Monitoring Committee of India (CLMCI) while reiterating its demand for separation of Telangana region from Andhra Pradesh.

When the South Indian state Andhra Pradesh celebrated its formation day on 1st November, the civil rights group CLMCI made the demand for Telangana saying: “The government under the leadership of Andhra rulers has been celebrating 1st November as the AP formation day, which is like rubbing salt on the wounds of the Telangana people.”

“This was the day when the Hyderabad state was merged into united Andhra; the basic rights of the people were taken off while conspiring to terminate the culture, language and dialect of Telangana region,” Lateef Mohd Khan, General Secretary, CLMCI said.

While declaring Telugu as compulsory language, Urdu language was ill-treated, because of which, the Urdu speaking people were removed from the government jobs and these jobs are occupied by the Andhras. The government, administration, management and other departments are dominated by Andhras. Hyderabad’s precious lands, buildings and natural resources have become assets of Andhra ruling class, he said.

The group has also opposed declaration of Hyderabad as a free zone citing it as a conspiracy against the people of Hyderabad because they have become refugee in their own land. “The Supreme Court’s judgment declaring Hyderabad as Free Zone would bring injustice to the people of Telangana especially employees. Government should immediately take necessary measures to protect the interest of Hyderabad by declaring it a separate zone instead of free zone. After all this discrimination and atrocities, singing Telugu Talli song is forced on the people, which is again the extreme form of insult to the people of this region. Therefore there is a need of continuous struggle against these Andhra rulers to set ourselves free and also there is a need to strive for separate Telangana.”

“Thus, the people of Telangana regard 1st November as traitor and betrayal day of Telangana. Civil Liberties Monitoring Committee clearly states that separate Telangana state is the birth right of its people and whenever there is violation of rights, through struggle, these rights will be restored. Separate statehood can be achieved only through continuous struggle,” Khan said.
